The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) pleased to inform the general public that the registration for voters card is now commenced. The registration can be done in two phase the online self registration and the INEC Office registration centers.

Interested Nigerians wish to do their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for upcoming 2027 general election can do their registration online (pre registration) at INEC registration portal and visit INEC Offices located to their area to do physical registration (finger biometric data).

About INEC Nigeria

The Independent Electoral Commission is a commission established and responsible for conduct elections to various political offices in Nigeria. This commission was established under the 1999 Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria established the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections to various political offices in the country. The functions of INEC are as set out in Section 15, Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Section 2 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended).

Voters Card Registration Guidelines 

The Voter registration is a process to register Nigerians who are 18 years of age and or above and those who are eligible but for some reason were unable to register after completing the previous registration at INEC offices. It is often referred to as the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR). 

Registration can be started online as a registration process (pre registration ) and completed the registration (finger biometric) in person at the nearest designated location. Another option is to start the process at a designated center and complete it all there without any advance registration process.

Voters Card Registration Requirements

  • Must be a Nigerian citizen or resident in the country. 
  • Must be 18 years of age, on or before the date of registration
  • Is 18 years of age or above and could not have registered during the previous registration exercise
  • Is residing, working in, or originating from the LGA/Area Council or RA/Ward covered by the Registration Centre
  • Must present himself to the Registration Officers for registration and be able to produce proof of identity, age and nationality, if required
  • Has a PVC but his name is not on the voters’ register.
  • Not be under any legal disqualification to vote under any law, regulation or regulation in force in Nigeria

Voters Card Registration Online Pre-registration

A person qualified for registration may pre-register online. The online voter registration system allows a prospective voter to submit his/her enrolment information. The information will be accessible at all registration centres at the LGAs and State offices where the biometrics of the prospective voter will be captured to complete his/her registration.

Voters Card Online Pre registration Process 

  • Prospective voter shall log in to the online voter registration portal and create an account using a computer or mobile device. A confirmation email will be sent to the registrant to complete the account creation. 
  • Prospective voter may also log in to the online registration portal using his/her social media accounts as specified in the portal. 
  • Prospective voter shall fill in his/her personal details and other required information. The portal shall capture the passport photograph of the registrant. The registrant shall then select an appointment date to physically travel to the nearest designated registration location to complete the registration. 
  • After the election day, the registrant shall produce a document to be presented at the registration center to complete the registration process.
